Robert M. Baratt DVM, MS, FAVD

 

   Dr. Baratt graduated from the Colorado State College Of Veterinary Medicine in 1981 after

obtaining a Master’s degree in Pathology. He founded Salem Valley Equine Clinic in 1983, and the

 equine practice eventually expanded to include companion animals in 1992. Salem Valley Veterinary

   Clinic has grown to employ 4 veterinarians and 9 support staff. He has developed a keen interest in dentistry, and is the first veterinarian to obtain Fellowship in the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry in both small animal and equine dentistry. Dr. Baratt travels extensively to instruct fellow veterinarians and veterinary students in both companion animal and equine dentistry with lectures and hands-on wetlabs. David A. Anderson, DVM

 

Dr. Anderson grew up in Massachusetts and has been caring for animals from an early age.  He developed an interest in veterinary medicine while helping train and race standardbred racehorses.  He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science from the University of New Hampshire in 1986 and proceeded to earn a Doctorate Degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Tennessee in 1990.  After veterinary school Dr. Anderson served as an intern at the Rochester Equine Clinic, one of New England's premier medical and surgical referral hospitals. In 1991, he joined Salem Valley Equine Center in Salem , CT.   He and Dr. Baratt started Salem Valley Veterinary Clinic in 1992 to better serve the needs of a growing clientele.  Their practice includes primary care for both horses and companion animals, emergency services for horses, equine and companion animal dentistry, veterinary medical and behavioral consultations, sport horse medicine, and clinical pharmacology.  Dr. Anderson has several areas of interest.  They include equine lameness, equine reproduction, prepurchase examinations, elective surgery, internal medicine, and practice management.

 
Sarah Slater, DVM

 

   Dr. Slater, a Connecticut native, received her Bachelor of Arts in biology from Smith College in 2000 and her veterinary degree from Tufts University in 2006.  Following graduation, she completed a one year internship in equine medicine and surgery at Saratoga Equine Veterinary Services in Saratoga Springs, NY.  After a brief time in Maine working in mixed animal practice, Dr. Slater returned home to join Salem Valley Veterinary Clinic.  Dr. Slater currently lives in Lyme with her husband, Scott, her son Nathan, her daughter Hazel, and their three dogs, Nika, Emmett, and Andy.  When not at work she enjoys running, cycling, hiking, and spending time with her family. They are expecting their second child in December of 2010. Dr. Slater is practicing small animal medicine in the clinic and has a special interest in dermatology and geriatric care.

 

Amber N. Isbell, DVM

 

Dr. Isbell, a proud born and raised Texan, received her Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and went on to earn her veterinary degree from Texas A & M University in 2009.  After graduation, Dr. Isbell completed an internship at South Shore Equine Clinic & Diagnostic Center in Massachusetts, focusing on emergency care, nutrition, and diagnostic imaging.  During her internship she also participated in Project Samana, a program of the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association providing medical and surgical services to the horse and mule population of Samana, Dominican Republic.  After briefly returning to Texas following her internship, Dr. Isbell returned to the Northeast to join the team at Salem Valley Veterinary Clinic in January 2011.  Her interests include internal medicine, preventative care, and equine emergency care.
