Robert M. Baratt DVM, MS, FAVD


Dr. Baratt graduated from the Colorado State College Of Veterinary Medicine in 1981 after obtaining a Master’s degree in Pathology. He founded Salem Valley Equine Clinic in 1983, and the equine practice eventually expanded to include companion animals in 1992. Salem Valley Veterinary Clinic has grown consistently from Dr. Baratt’s initial vision to now employ 3 veterinarians and 9 support staff. He has developed a keen interest in dentistry, and is the first veterinarian to obtain Fellowship in the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry in both small animal and equine dentistry. Dr. Baratt travels extensively to instruct fellow veterinarians and veterinary students in both companion animal and equine dentistry with lectures and hands-on wetlabs.

David A. Anderson DVM

Dr. Anderson grew up in Massachusetts and enjoyed caring for animals from a young age.  He developed an interest in pursuing a career as a veterinarian while helping train and race standardbred race horses at home and on several New England race tracks. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science from the University of New Hampshire in 1986.  He later earned a Doctorate Degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Tennessee in 1990.  After veterinary school, Dr. Anderson was an intern at the Rochester Equine Clinic (Myhre Equine Clinic) in Rochester, New Hampshire. In 1991, he became an associate of Salem Valley Equine Clinic in Salem, CT. He and Dr. Baratt started Salem Valley Veterinary Clinic in 1992 where he has served on staff as a veterinarian for the past 17 years. Their practice includes primary care, emergency services, dentistry, consultations, performance horse problems, and clinical pharmacology. Dr. Anderson has several areas of interest. They include equine lameness, equine reproduction, prepurchase examinations, small animal surgery, internal medicine, and practice management. He and his wife, Mary, have three children and enjoy living in rural Connecticut.

  


Sarah Slater DVM

Dr. Slater, a Connecticut native, received her Bachelor of Arts in biology from Smith College in 2000 and her veterinary degree from Tufts University in 2006.  Following graduation, she completed a one year internship in equine medicine and surgery at Saratoga Equine Veterinary Services in Saratoga Springs, NY.  After a brief time in Maine working in mixed animal practice, Dr. Slater returned home to join Salem Valley Veterinary Clinic.  Dr. Slater currently lives in Lyme with her husband, Scott, and their two dogs, Nika and Emmett.  When not at work she enjoys running, cycling, hiking with her dogs, and spending time with her family.  Dr. Slater and her husband are expecting their first child this December (2008).
